Young Sheffield entrepreneur Ellie Ragdale is celebrating the success of her first interactive cinema event in Sheffield that involved more than 75 youngsters.
Ellie, who runs Handmade Cinema, put on a special showing of Disney’s The Aristocats at Sharrow’s Old Junior School, which was a sell-out. In pre-event workshops held at Friends of Adventures playground in Highfield, children worked with Ellie and her team of
young graduate artists to recreate Paris’s famous landmarks and make French-themed décor to complement the film.
Ellie was helped to fulfil her lifelong dream of running her own cinema club by somewhereto_ the Lottery-funded space-finding service for 16- to-25-year-olds. They found her a free venue and helped her secure funding from O2 Think Big to get the project off the ground.
She said: “I want to say a massive thank you to somewhereto_ for all their help and support and Magic Lantern for providing the screening equipment.”
Ellie is currently looking for further funding and support to run a series of events in 2014. For further information, email Luisa@somewhereto.com

Aristocats launch community cinema

A community cinema is due to be launched in Sheffield with an interactive screening of Disney's The Aristocats.
Handmade Cinema, which has been set up by Sheffield-based Ellie Ragdale, is run solely by young people for the benefit of families in the city.
This project is unique because we will get local children and families involved in creating the cinema through building sets in workshops, and on the night everyone dresses up for a really exciting experience.
I hope to establish Handmade Cinema as Sheffield's number one children's interactive film club.
– ELLIE RAGDALE
Cinemagoers are being asked to dress in cat costumes for the inaugural screening, which takes place from 4pm at the Old Junior School in Southview Road, Sharrow.
There will be a live jazz band, French cuisine and cat painting on the day, while artists will hold free workshops in schools and community groups before the event to create the set for the screening.
Tickets cost £2.50 per adult and £1.50 per child. Booking is not required.

Thank you to everyone for spreading the word of Handmade Cinema!
