About Us

What is Handmade Cinema?

Handmade Cinema is a new, exciting, interactive film club which aims to create immersive cinema events that transform the way in which films are seen!

Based in Sheffield and run entirely by young people, we hope to bring these spectacular screenings to locations around the city, some that are familiar to many and others that are perhaps more obscure or unknown.

Our plan is to work with local school children and community groups to
explore the film's themes and culture. Through workshops we will create work to transform the space and bring the film to life! These workshops will take on a variety of forms, crafts, film making, creative writing, photography, drawing, animation to name just a few - but we are open to suggestions from your school or community group! The film will dictate the chosen medium, so really, anything is possible!

The film screening will then mark the culmination of the project, with the artwork created in the workshops used to transform the space into the film's location, as well as live entertainment, face painting, themed food and craft activities - all used to bring the film to life!

Will also want to team up with local performance groups, artists, musicians, culinary experts, entertainers, makers and creators to make our events truly unique and offer the audience a chance to experience the film as well as watch it.
